Floral Key Mini Album
Today I want to share a mini album I’ve made using Heartfelt Creations Floral Key Collection. I’ve bound this album with a ring binding using my Cinch and used medium weight chipboard for the front and back covers. The outside measures 5.5″x6″ and the five inside pages (not including the tabs) measure 5.25″ square. On the cover I fussy cut an oval from the paper and recut the flowers and leaves across the bottom. I glued the additional flowers only on the outside edge which left a nice pocket to stick the tags in your see here. Two of my friends kindly shared some of their EBAY metal purchases which I’ve used to accent the papers here. The pearl oval band actually came as an afterthought. I had wanted to outline the oval with a bead of Glossy Accents but after it dried I wasn’t happy with it, you know how that is. The joy of crafting though is that you can add another layer to change it up, thus the addition of the pearls.
The five inside pages came in a RAK and are from the dollar bins at Michaels. They originally were white with 3 holes along the one side for binding. I don’t care for albums bound with single rings so I cut about 1/2″ off the side and bottom of the pages, covered them all with papers from the collection and then inked the edges heavily with Tim Holtz Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Now mind you when you have shaped edges this way you do have to use a little extra energy around the curves. In my stash of tools I have an old set of files which worked perfectly around the curves.
Here’s the first and last pages of the mini. You can see I’ve added some flowers cut from the Sizzix Flower Layers die, a brad over the door knob on the page on the far right (this added great depth and interest). I also fussy cut from the paper and popped up some of the flowers, the corner stopper and key hole (you’ll be able to see them much better in the video). All of the mats are backed with camel colored cardstock, inked around the edges and overlayed lightly with some of the stamps from the Floral Key Collection.
There are lots of inserts for added photos and journaling, I counted spots for at least 47 and you could easily add more tags to accommodate more photos. I did use some matte medium over the corner pockets I made. I find when I’m making places that tags will be taken in and out of repeatedly it helps to add a few coats for extra stability. As you watch the video you’ll see where I used the Sizzix Doily die to create two matching frames (on corresponding pages) for photos to slip behind. I backed these with acetate that is actually discarded packaging material. Also notice the popped up metal pieces, the heart and key, that were placed over the printed ones on these two pages. I loved how the paper became dimensional with the metal charms.
Well I hope I’ve inspired you to create a mini for yourself. This is a beautiful paper collection that lends itself well to albums and cards. There are just so many possibilities for your pages by either cutting the mats provided or fussy cutting elements from the paper for bits and bobs throughout.
Thanks and happy scrappin’!
